“Passed with near unanimous congressional support in August (2008), the The Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA) is designed to require mandatory testing of any items that might be used by children. The testing and subsequent certification process is meant to assure children’s products and the materials used to make those products are safe. The CPSIA applies to a broad range of items, including apparel, toys, books and sports gear. Following criticism about the law’s effect on small businesses, the Consumer Product Safety Commission voted last year to grant a limited one-year stay on parts of the legislation, hoping to allow time for rules to be more clearly defined and exemptions to be granted.” – Borrowed from the March 2009 issue of PromoGram.
That year is almost up! Starting February 10, 2010 the gavel comes down, sort of speak, and if your demographic is children under 12, you must be compliant.
So Tons Creative is keenly aware of these laws and follows the constant updates. If you require compliance, we work with many manufacturers who understand and go above and beyond to not only comply, but push the boundaries of testing further. We challenge the industry to not only meet, but hopefully exceed expectations when it comes to consumer safety regulations.
